COVID: Kerala logs 702 fresh cases; TPR at 3.02%

The COVID situation in Kerala continues to improve with the active case tally dropping to 5,091 after yet another day of more recoveries than fresh infections.

On Tuesday, while 702 new cases were reported, 903 recovered from the infection.

Test Positivity Rate (TPR) also remains on the lower side (3.02%) after 23,238 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Two recent deaths were confirmed as COVID-related while with the inclusion of 59 previously undocumented fatalities the toll has reached 67,476.

Ernakulam continues to log the most number of daily cases (155) while all other districts recorded fewer than 100 cases.

There are 16,540 under observation in Kerala, of whom 17,541 are in home/institutional quarantine centres.

No healthcare workers contracted the virus on the day, reported the state health department.

Of the fresh cases, four arrived from outside while the source of infection in 28 remains unknown. At least 669 contracted the virus through contacts.

The highest daily recoveries were reported in Ernakulam (198) followed by Kottayam (168) and Thiruvananthapuram (127).
