Adoor: A 43-year-old man, who sustained serious head injuries following a scuffle over an argument about a group discussion on WhatsApp nearly a week ago, died at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital on Saturday.

The dead man, Ranjith, was a native of Kodiyil in Pathanamthitta district. He was the agent of the Malayala Manorama daily at the Puthuval area.

The main accused Anil, 43, of Anish Bhavan, Maroor, is yet to be arrested though he was booked over the brawl that took place on the night of March 27.

The fatal fight

An argument broke out between Ranjith and some youths who were his neighbours on their WhatsApp group named "Changathikoottam". It was related to some personal remarks that had been made in the chat.

Subsequently, Anil challenged Ranjith over the phone and the latter soon arrived at the former's house. During the course of the quarrel, Anil pushed Ranjith and the latter fell on the ground, injuring his head. Reports say Ranjith's head banged against a stone.

Soon Anil and his friends rushed Ranjith to a hospital in Pathanapuram. After first aid, Ranjith was taken back to his house. However, with his condition worsening, Ranith was rushed to a hospital in Punalar.

But with his condition being critical the doctors referred Ranjith to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital where he died on Saturday morning. According to police, the postmortem report revealed that the serious injury suffered on the head was the cause of death.
