Amid speculations about aligning with the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala, Nilambur MLA PV Anvar officially joined the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on Friday. AITC made the announcement through their official social media platforms.
“Extending a very warm welcome to Shri P V Anvar, MLA Nilambur, who joined the @AITCofficial family today in the presence of our Hon'ble Nat'l GS Shri @abhishekaitc,” AITC posted on X. “Together, we shall work towards the welfare of the people of our nation,” the party added.
Anvar was formally inducted into the party by AITC’s National General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP, Abhishek Banerjee. “His (Anvar’s) dedication to public service and his advocacy for the rights of the people of Kerala enrich our shared mission of inclusive growth. Together, we will strive for a progressive India where every voice matters and every dream is realized!” Banerjee shared on X.
Earlier, Anvar had expressed his willingness to align with the UDF to oppose the Pinarayi Vijayan-led Kerala government. He had claimed that senior Congress leaders, including VD Satheesan, K Sudhakaran, and Ramesh Chennithala, along with Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) supremo Panakkad Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal, had extended their support to him when he was implicated in the Nilambur forest office vandalism case. Subsequently, the IUML also stated that it would abide by the UDF's decision regarding the Nilambur MLA’s inclusion in the coalition.
