30 years of ‘Malayala Manorama Karshakasree’: Statewide Karshaka Sabhas from today

Kattappana: A series of ‘Karshaka Sabhas’ (farmers’ conclaves) will be organised across Kerala from Monday as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of ‘Malayala Manorama Karshakasree’ magazine. Kattappana in Idukki is hosting the first Karshaka Sabha.
The statewide get-togethers will discuss the challenges faced by farmers in order to find solutions. In Kattappana, the event will be inaugurated by Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine at St George Parish Hall, Pallikavala. Malayala Manorama Editorial Director Jose Panachipuram will preside over the function.
Agricultural experts, officials and political authorities will participate in the programmes, where farmers can present their problems and seek solutions. Two seminars will be conducted on each day of the Karshaka Sabha. The event in Idukki district will conclude on February 5.
On February 3, which is observed as ‘Cardamom Day’, the Karshaka Sabha will hold discussions on the quality of cardamom and new trends in the cardamom market. On February 4, Forest Minister A K Saseendran and Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty will take part in various sessions.
Other topics to be discussed at the event include forest laws, land issues, attacks by wildlife, the latest methods to revive pepper cultivation and new opportunities for farming and entrepreneurship in the hill areas, such as growing fruits and vegetables.
A ‘Karshika Mela’ (agricultural exhibition) is also being organised along with the discussions. K J Joseph and Company, a leading producer of agricultural products, is the main sponsor of the exhibition.
