Kozhikode: A 24-year-old woman was severely hurt after jumping off the first floor of her house in an attempt to escape an alleged rape attempt in Kozhikode on Saturday. The woman, a native of Payyanur in Kannur, was employed as a receptionist at the newly opened hotel, ‘Sanketham’ in Mampetta, near Mukkam.
The hotel owner, along with two other staff members, trespassed into her place of accommodation and allegedly attempted to rape her. She was assaulted, and she jumped off the first floor of her accommodation and sustained serious injuries to her hip, spine and hands. The incident took place on Saturday around 11 pm.
The hotel staff is currently under treatment at the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital.
"She was physically assaulted by the hotel owner and his accomplices. He had been trying to exploit her financial crisis. He was like a father figure to her, but his attitude toward her changed recently. We will do everything we can to seek justice," said a relative of the woman.
The Mukkam police have filed a case against hotel owner Devadas, staff member Riyas, and security personnel Suresh. They have been charged under sections 329(4) (house-trespass), 74 ( use of criminal force or assault against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty) and 3(5) (joint criminal liability) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused are currently on the run.
