An employee at the Thiruvananthapuram zoo sustained injuries to his head after he was mauled by a female tiger on Sunday. The tiger, which had been caught and translocated from Wayanad, was recently shifted from the quarantine facility to an enclosure. 

Ramachandran Nair, the supervisor of the zoo, was overseeing cleaning work in the enclosure when the animal lunged at him from inside and mauled him with its claws. The zoo staff said that the attack was so sudden that Ramachandran could not step away. He was initially taken to the General Hospital and then to the Medical College. He received four stitches and was sent home.

The tiger, named Babitha, was captured from Wayanad. She was brought to the Thiruvananthapuram zoo in April 2024. She was treated for various wounds for nearly two months before being transferred to her enclosure.
