TVM nursing student Ammu Sajiv's death; probe handed over to Crime Branch

The State Crime Branch will investigate the alleged suicide of 22-year-old Ammu A Sajiv, who was a final-year nursing student at the Institute of Nursing Education, Chuttipara, Pathanamthitta. A native of Thiruvananthapuram, she succumbed to injuries from a fall from the top floor of a hostel building on November 15, 2024. She was initially taken to General Hospital, Pathanamthitta, from where she was referred to Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram. She succumbed to wounds on the way to the hospital.
Ammu, a resident of Charumoodu, Ayiroorpara, was the daughter of Sajiv, who runs a business and Radhamani, who retired as nursing superintendent from the Medical College. The Deputy Inspector General, Thiruvananthapuram range on July 27 sent a letter to the Home department to transfer the case from Pathanamthitta police to the Crime Branch.
Ammu's brother Akhil and father Sajiv had raised allegations of harassment against Ammu's three classmates following her death. It was cited that complaints were filed against these students with the principal. Pathanamthitta police which probed the case arrested three final year studets from SME Nursing college a week after her death. They were charged with abetment to suicide. The principal of the college was transferred in connection and the accused students accused in the case – Aleena Dilip, A T Akshita, and Anjana Madhu, were suspended from the college.
Ammu's father Sajiv said that he has lost confidence in the probe by Pathanamthitta police. "They kept telling us that they would be with us and would ensure justice. However there were lapses on their part. We hope that the Crime Branch probe will bring the culprits to justice," said Sajiv.
