Koyilandi: Danger looms large for those travelling near the old post office area in Kuruvangad. Residents and commuters have long voiced concerns about the accident-prone junction where the Chengottukavu–Kondamvalli–Kuruvangad road meets the State Highway. Vehicles heading towards Koyilandi often accelerate after the Mavinchuvadu bus stop, only to encounter a sharp curve near the old post office where the Chengottukavu road joins the highway.

Drivers entering from this side road have limited visibility of fast-approaching vehicles on the highway, leaving them little time to react. To reduce the risk, locals installed a large mirror at the junction. However, motorists speeding along the highway rarely notice it, rendering the measure ineffective. On Saturday, Balakrishnan, a scooter rider, lost his life after being hit by a bus at the junction.
