Alappuzha: The Kerala State Coir Corporation Limited has unveiled the official mascot for the 2025 Nehru Trophy Boat Race — a drongo named Kaathu crafted entirely from coir.

The launch event was inaugurated by Alappuzha MLA P P Chitharanjan on Tuesday. The mascot, depicting the drongo bird locally known as kakkathampuratti, was designed by an Alappuzha native and produced under the corporation’s brand Coir Craft.

This is the third consecutive year that the corporation has created the official mascot for the prestigious race, said Arun Chandran, Sales Manager at Kerala State Coir Corporation.

In addition to the mascot, the corporation also showcased a coir-based Onam pookalam (floral carpet), unveiled as part of the Onam celebrations beginning next week. Coir Corporation chairman G Venugopal and managing director Pratheesh Panicker were also present at the event.
