Munnar: Police have arrested two persons in connection with temple thefts reported in Munnar last month. The incidents took place at Kundala Thirumurugan Temple under Munnar police station limits and Aruvikkad Mariamman Temple under Devikulam station limits.

The accused were identified as Gautham (28) of Santos Nagar, Munnar, and a minor accomplice. They had broken open the temple strongrooms, and stolen cash and gold ornaments from the idol in the sanctum sanctorum.

During a search at Gautham’s residence, police recovered the stolen gold. However, the stolen cash had already been spent. Police said Gautham had earlier been arrested in a similar temple theft case in Munnar New Nagar. He was produced in court and remanded.

The operation was led by Munnar SHO Vinod Kumar.
