Thiruvambadi: The tender for constructing a four-lane arch steel bridge over the Iruvanjipuzha river at Marippuzha, as part of the proposed twin-tunnel road project, has been awarded to Puniya Construction Company. The Haryana-based firm will construct the bridge along with its approach roads for ₹73.86 crore.

Earlier, the Kolkata-based Royal Infra Construction Company had won the tender for his project. However, with the company unwilling to wait until the government obtained environmental clearance for the project, the tender for the bridge was re-invited.

Construction of the bridge is crucial, as machinery, including drilling equipment, cannot be transported across the Iruvanjipuzha river for the tunnel’s development from the Anakkampoyil side. Until the bridge is completed, tunnel road construction will be limited to the Meppadi region, informed Dilip Buildcon Company.
