Pazhayangadi: A year has passed since the completion of the state’s first mussels and sea fish seed production centre, yet the unit remains unopened, drawing mounting complaints over the prolonged delay in its inauguration. The building has come up at Puthiyangadi, a coastal region within the Madayi Panchayat.

At present, most of the fish seeds in the state are sourced either from other states or directly from the water bodies. It was with this in mind that the mussels and sea fish seed production centre was established at Puthiyangadi, aimed at ensuring the supply of quality fish seeds to farmers. The centre is envisioned to produce seeds of mussels and various sea fish varieties, with a target of producing 50 lakh sea fish saplings and 50 lakh mussel seeds annually.

The state government has allocated ₹5 crore for establishing this centre.
