Here is a coconut tree adamant on creating records. It found a place in the 'Limca Book of Records' as the tree that produced 350 coconuts a year. Now, it has surpassed that record, producing 506 coconuts this year.

The 'record-breaking' tree stands tall on 9.5 cents belonging to a retired Customs Superintendent, George Pullatt, at Maradu in Ernakulam. Of the five coconut trees jostling for space among vegetable and fruit-bearing plants, four provide a normal yield.

George is not worried about the skyrocketing price of coconut. Additionally, he earns a decent amount selling coconuts. He opined that even those with little land should plant two or three coconut trees, apart from vegetables and fruits like passion fruit.

Several city dwellers are growing coconut trees despite space constraints, which helps them address the market inflation that could otherwise derail home budgets. George said installing a small biogas plant would help not only to manage waste produced at home, but also to produce enough manure for the small garden.
