Pathanamthitta: Until a while ago, B Anil Kumar (56) worked with farmers who cultivated various crops. Now, the former Agriculture Department official is nurturing his own dreams.

With the full support of his family, Anil, who was the district agricultural assistant principal director in Kollam, is now pursuing a first-year PG course at St Cyril’s College in Adoor.

Hailing from Anayady in Kollam, Anil retired from government service on May 31 this year. He was a classmate of Agriculture Minister P Prasad in school. After earning a Botany degree from NSS College, Pandalam, Anil joined the BSc Agriculture course at Kerala Agricultural University, Vellayani.

Subsequently, Anil entered government service but also enrolled for a PG course in distance education mode as he was keen to study more. However, he could not continue due to his busy work schedule. It was after dropping out of the correspondence course that Anil decided to join a full-time PG programme on retirement.

Anil has chosen English for his PG, as it is his favourite subject. “I restarted my academic life after a break of 34 years as I believe in learning till the last moment of my life,” he said. Interestingly, Anil’s classmates are younger than his elder son Sumith, who is 24. Similarly, three of Anil’s teachers were born after 1991, when he completed his degree course. It was Sumith who took the initiative to complete the procedures related to Anil’s admission to the PG course. Anil’s younger son Surya is a Plus Two student and his wife is Sindhu.
