Mapranam: A seven-member team of experts appointed by the central government to study about the challenges faced by the famers in the kole fields in the Muriyad region visited the konthipulam kole land and held discussions with the farmers. Meanwhile, the farmers submitted a representation containing their various demands to the central agricultural joint secretary S Rukmini. 

The farmers urged to build a mechanised cum sluice at Konthipulam so that the farmers can use the water that flows from the Chimmini Dam to the Muriyad kole region during summer, install two 50 HP motors at Parayamthodu to pump water to the Muriyad lake from the Karuvannur River and to install a mechanised shutter after completing the maintenance works of Illickal and Kottamkodu slope shutters. The farmers raised these demands at the meeting besides including them in the formal representation. 

Meanwhile, joint secretary S Rukmini stated that the central government would intervene in the matters that could be solved by them while trying to involve the state government to manage the rest. The team comprised of central machinery and technology deputy commissioner AMS Ram, senior scientist Dr. Divya Ramakrishnan, Hyderabad agronomy scientist Dr. S Vijayakumar, soil scientists Dr. R Gopinath and P Manasa. 

Kerala Samyukta Karshaka Vedi rakshadhikari president Kummanam Rajasekharan, C Krishna Kumar, district paddy farmers sangham president Rajendra Babu and K Ayoob spoke at the meeting.
