Thiruvananthapuram/Kottayam: The Kerala government on Friday issued an order appointing Navaneeth V, son of Bindu Vishruthan, who tragically died in the Kottayam Medical College Hospital building collapse, to the Travancore Devaswom Board.

Navaneeth, an engineering graduate, has been assigned to the maintenance department as a third-grade overseer. He will begin his duties at the Assistant Engineer’s office at Vaikom, Kottayam, said Minister for Ports, Cooperation and Devaswoms V N Vasavan. The appointment was made following a cabinet decision.

Bindu, 52, from Thalayolaparambu, lost her life on July 3 when a 68-year-old building at Kottayam Medical College Hospital collapsed. She was at the hospital accompanying her daughter, who was undergoing treatment in the trauma care unit. Bindu was using a bathroom in the hospital’s old surgical block when it gave way. She was rescued from the debris but later succumbed to her injuries. Three others, including an 11-year-old child, were injured in the incident.

“The death of Bindu was a tragic loss. The LDF government has been supporting her family. A new house promised by the government has been completed and handed over, and this appointment for her son ensures the family’s security,” the minister said.
