Piravom: There seems to be no end to the hardships caused by road excavation for cable laying within the municipal limits. All major roads in Piravom are being dug up to lay cables for the KSEB and a private company. Careless night-time digging has led to repeated pipe bursts, plunging the area into crisis. Delays in restoring the excavated stretches have also triggered accidents, with vehicles skidding into open ditches after dark.

A pipe burst during excavation on the Karakkodu Kaaraamel–Enthukaattilppady Road for cable laying has made travel along this stretch a nightmare. One of the three drinking water distribution pipes passing beneath the road from the Kakkadu project serving the municipality and nearby panchayats was damaged.

Due to the high-pressure water jet, the courtyard of a nearby house remains flooded with mud and sludge and floor tiles have come off. Fire and rescue services later cleaned the road and the affected house premises.

The damaged portion here, however, continues to disrupt traffic, including the movement of school buses, along the road.
