Idukki: A local election campaign took an unexpected turn on Monday when a candidate was bitten by a dog in the 2nd ward of Bison Valley panchayat. UDF candidate Jancy Viju sustained the injury while canvassing.

The incident occurred around 10 am in the Bisonvally Irupathekkar area. Jancy, who was accompanied by party workers, had entered a house compound when the dog, which was roaming freely outside its cage, suddenly lunged at her and bit her on the leg.

She was rushed to the Adimali Taluk Hospital, where she received first aid. Jancy resumed campaigning later in the afternoon. Meanwhile, the UDF alleged that the panchayat administration has failed to act on the growing stray dog menace in the area.
