Thrissur: Rishiraj, a 25-year-old male tiger, died at the Thrissur Zoo on Saturday after months of age-related health complications.

Zoo officials said the animal had been under intensive care for the past three months. With its mobility severely reduced, keepers had been providing oral feeding and round-the-clock monitoring using CCTV and other support systems.

The tiger stopped eating on Saturday night and died shortly afterwards. All post-death procedures will be carried out as per National Tiger Conservation Authority guidelines, Zoo Superintendent Anilkumar said.

Rishiraj was brought to the zoo in 2015 after being captured from Kattikulam in Wayanad. He was around 15 years old at the time.
