The State Election Commission (SEC) on Sunday approved around 1.54 lakh nomination papers for the upcoming local body polls. The updated numbers were published after officials completed the scrutiny of papers.
Among the total nominations received, 82,020 were submitted by women, of which 72,524 have been accepted. Additionally, three nominations filed by a transgender person were also cleared.
Authorities rejected 2,479 nominations, including 1,354 filed by women and 1,125 submitted by men.
Following scrutiny, the number of valid candidates stands at 1,07,211—comprising 56,501 women, 50,709 men, and one transgender candidate.
The officials clarified that the gap between the number of approved nominations and the number of approved candidates stems from several individuals submitting more than one nomination.
The final candidate list will be known after the withdrawal deadline ends on Monday. Kerala will conduct its local body elections in two phases, scheduled for December 9 and 11.
