Kochi: An independent candidate contesting the local body elections in Kerala has run into trouble after her campaign boards were found pasted on the pillars of the under-construction Metro rail line along the Seaport–Airport Road in Kochi.

Kochi Metro Rail Corporation (KMRL) officials spotted the posters on Saturday night and alerted the Thrikkakara municipality. Municipal employees later removed the boards, and a notice was issued to the candidate. Authorities said further action will be taken once the candidate responds to the notice.

As per rules, a fine is likely to be imposed on the candidate for installing campaign materials in a public place. The fine will also be included in the election expenses of the candidate.

Meanwhile, the election authorities have deployed several squads to remove campaign materials from public roads.
