Malappuram: Vattath Haseena (52), a UDF candidate in Malappuram’s Muthedam panchayat, collapsed and died at her residence on Sunday night. According to reports, she complained of chest pain and collapsed around 11.30 pm after returning home from election campaigning.

She was rushed to a private hospital in Edakkara, but doctors pronounced her dead.

The UDF has fielded Haseena, an IUML activist, from Payimpadam Ward 7 of the Muthedam panchayat. The local body elections will be held in Malappuram on Thursday.

She worked as an Anganwadi teacher in Payimpadam. It is learnt that she had actively participated in campaigning throughout Sunday and attended family meetings later in the evening. Her funeral will be held at Muthedam Valiya Juma Masjid on Monday.
