Meet Thrissur's Mumtaz, BJP’s only Muslim candidate in Kerala for recent LSG polls

Thrissur: Mumtaz Thaha who won from the 35th division in Kannankulangara at the recent local body elections, is also a successful entrepreneur. Interestingly, Mumtaz, who contested the election as an NDA candidate, is the BJP’s only Muslim candidate in the state. The first-time candidate defeated Sheena Anand of LDF with a margin of 77 votes to be elected to the corporation.
Mumtaz got 973 votes while Sheena got only 896 votes. After working as a teacher for years, Mumtaz quit her job to become an entrepreneur. Four years ago, she started a pet grooming centre called Nala at Koorkancherry.
She has eight employees at her pet grooming centre. Mumtaz’s father Sahabudeen aka Vahab was a butcher. It was his greatest dream to start a grooming centre for pet animals.
Pet animals are dropped at Nala by the owners for grooming and training. Besides, Nala takes care of them when the owners are travelling. Mumtaz who has formed close bonds with her beloved animals is all set to groom Kannakulangara division for the next five years.
