The State Election Commissioner A Shajahan on Monday announced that the model code of conduct has been withdrawn across Kerala with effect from December 15, 2025.
However, the code will continue to remain in force in three wards where special elections are yet to be held following the death of candidates. These include the Moothedam grama panchayat in Malappuram district, the Pampakuda grama panchayat in Ernakulam district, and the Vizhinjam ward of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. The model code of conduct will remain applicable in these areas until the election process is completed.
The model code of conduct had come into effect across all local self-government institutions in the state from November 10, following the announcement of the local body general elections.
Members elected to local self-government institutions will assume office after taking the oath or affirmation on December 21, in line with guidelines issued by the State Election Commission. Oath-taking will begin at 10 am in village, block and district panchayats and municipal councils, and at 11.30 am in corporations.
Of the total 1,199 local bodies, the UDF has won four corporations, 54 municipalities, seven district panchayats, 79 block panchayats, and 505 village panchayats in the two-phased LSGD polls held on December 9 and 11. The results were announced on December 13.
While the LDF won one corporation, 28 municipalities, seven district panchayats, 63 block panchayats, and 340 village panchayats, the NDA secured victory in the Thiruvananthapuram corporation, two municipalities, and 26 village panchayats.
