Idukki: An elderly woman was tied up inside her house and robbed of gold ornaments and cash in a daylight burglary at Rajakumari in Rajakkad on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at the residence of Mariyakutty, 80, a native of Nadumattam. Police said a gang consisting of a woman and two men allegedly gained entry into the house around 9.30 am, when she was alone.

According to family members, the accused took one and a half sovereigns of gold, including three rings, and ₹5,000 in cash. The gang reportedly asked for drinking water on arrival and followed Mariyakutty inside when she went to fetch it. She was then tied to a dining table before the burglars fled with the valuables.

Mariyakutty later managed to free herself using the shawl with which she had been bound and alerted workers who were loading timber nearby.
