Kochi: A major fire broke out at Broadway in Kochi in the wee hours of Tuesday, gutting several shops and causing extensive damage. The blaze affected around five toy and fancy goods shops located in the Koluthara Bazaar building.

Fire and Rescue Services deployed around 10 fire station units to the spot and brought the fire under control after hours of effort. The control room received the alert at around 1.00 am. Firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to adjacent buildings, averting further damage. 

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported in the incident.
