Wayanad: Reshma (32), the wife of a Wayanad native who was found dead in Israel earlier this year, died on Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode. She had been hospitalised following a suicide attempt.
Her husband, Jinesh P Sukumaran (38), a native of Koliyadi near Sulthan Bathery, was found dead by hanging in July at Mevaseret Zion near Jerusalem, where he was employed as a caregiver. He had moved to Israel barely a month before his death, leaving behind his parents, wife and their child.
A V Jayan, ward member of Kenichira in Poothadi panchayat, said Reshma had been trying to come to terms with the tragedy. She had attended counselling sessions and was actively seeking employment, he said.
Family friends described the couple as closely bonded and said Jinesh was unhappy about living away from his family. Formerly a medical representative, he had gone abroad after financial pressures mounted.
Jinesh was found dead in the house where he worked. His employer, an 80-year-old Israeli woman, was also found dead in an adjacent room with multiple stab wounds.
After the postmortem, Reshma’s body will be brought home by Wednesday evening. The last rites will be held at her residence in Kolery.
