Mattathur panchayat row: Vice president resigns, president refuses; rebel leader levels allegations against DCC

The Mattathur panchayat vice president, Noorjahan Navas, who had assumed office with BJP support, has tendered her resignation to the KPCC, stating that she would fully abide by the Committee's directions. However, rebel leader and former DCC secretary T M Chandran said at a press conference that the panchayat president Tessy has informed him that she has no intention of resigning. Chandran also said that now the Congress may move to oust Tessy through a no-confidence motion, but he doesn't know whether such a move would garner the required support.
Chandran also raised a serious allegation against the DCC leadership, claiming that during the local body elections in Mattathur, three seats were allotted party symbols at the demand of Kodakara Rasheed, a known criminal figure. Chandran said a complaint detailing these issues has been submitted to the KPCC. Rasheed is an accused in the Ayyanthole flat murder case and was recently arrested in a sexual assault case.
Meanwhile, the Congress had been attempting to resolve the crisis by ensuring that all rebel members who secured positions with BJP support resigned from their posts. The party planned to accept those who corrected their "mistake" and returned to the fold, while gradually withdrawing disciplinary action against them. It was after discussions with Roji M John, representative of KPCC president Sunny Joseph, that a decision was taken to seek a temporary solution through the vice president's resignation.
However, these developments suggest that the vice president's exit has not resolved the issues. While Noorjahan Navas has resigned, Tessy's continued tenure as president is likely to fuel further unrest in the coming days. The new complaints to the party leadership against the DCC are also expected to become a point of discussion.
