Kasaragod: Mukesh Bhaskaran, who was driving a car, averted a fatal accident by saving the life of scooter rider VV Sasikumar through his presence of mind.
The incident occurred at Manjalamcode near Choyyamcode in Kasaragod around 8.30 am on Sunday. Mukesh, a resident of Kollampara in Karinthalam and owner of 'Royal Homes' at Cheemeni, was on his way to his shop when he noticed a scooter rider lose balance and fall on the road while attempting to overtake a private bus approaching from the opposite direction.
Realising that his car was about to hit the fallen rider, Mukesh swerved sharply to the left despite the presence of an electric post on that side. With remarkable control, he steered the car off the road and brought it to a halt after crashing into a nearby compound wall, all within a matter of seconds.
The front portion of the car was severely damaged following the collision with the wall. However, Sasikumar, a resident of Pension Mukku in Chayoth and an employee of Aramana Jewellery in Kasaragod, had a narrow escape only because Mukesh had driven his car away from the road. Other than a minor fracture to a finger due to the fall on the road, Sasikumar has suffered no major injury.
After the incident, Mukesh visited Sasikumar at his house in Chayoth. "Despite my car suffering extensive damage, I am glad to have saved a person’s life," said Mukesh.
