Thiruvananthapuram: Barely hours after former DGP and Sasthamangalam ward councillor R Sreelekha expressed dissatisfaction over assurances that she would be considered for the mayor’s post in Thiruvananthapuram, she took to Facebook to accuse the media of spreading fabricated stories by selectively editing visuals to fit their narrative.

In the Facebook post, Sreelekha said she had no dissatisfaction, reiterating that she had none then and has none now. She said she was proud to work for the Bharatiya Janata Party and described herself as a proud party worker, a happy ward councillor and a dedicated public servant. Sreelekha alleged that media persons harassed her by preventing her from entering her office, following her around and questioning her aggressively. She also accused them of propagating false narratives.

Earlier in the day, addressing the media, Sreelekha said the BJP leadership had projected her as the face of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation election before the public and the media.

“When the party first asked me to contest the local body elections, I was reluctant. I agreed only after being told that I would be considered for the mayor’s post and that I would be the face of the corporation's election. There is nothing new or surprising about this,” she said. Sreelekha added that she took pride in the party’s significant electoral achievement in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
