Sanju Samson has climbed eight places in the latest T20I batting rankings despite not featuring regularly in the recently concluded Asia Cup in the UAE.

The wicketkeeper batter from Kerala was ranked 31st in the September 30 list released by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Interestingly, Sanju finds himself a spot above Shubman Gill, the top-order batter who took his opening spot in India's T20I side.

Gill was not as effective as his left-hand opening partner, Abhishek Sharma, in the Asia Cup. He made only 127 runs from 7 innings and had a high score of 47. Sanju scored more runs (132) than Gill despite only batting in four matches, coming in as No 5.

Kerala star Sanju had a memorable 2024 in India colours, scoring his maiden T20I century (111) against Bangladesh in October before hitting centuries against South Africa at Durban and Johannesburg.

Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma, who finished as the top run-getter in the event, with 314 runs, hitting three fifties, was ranked No. 1 in the T20I rankings. Tilak Varma, India's match-winner in the Asia Cup final against Pakistan, was No. 3 in the men's T20I rankings, behind England's Phil Salt. India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav slipped two spots to be No 8.
