Captain Laura Wolvaardt scored a brilliant hundred before Marizanne Kapp bagged a fifer as South Africa crushed England by 125 runs to enter their maiden Women's ODI World Cup final in Guwahati on Wednesday. Hosts India will take on Australia in the second semifinal on Thursday.

Wolvaardt hit 169 off 143 to power South Africa to a formidable 319/7. Sophie Ecclestone triggered a mini collapse after South African openers Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits added 116. But Kapp (42) came and Chloe Tryon (33 not out) got the South Africans to finish strongly.

Four-time champions England had to chase a record total but couldn't tackle Kapp, who made a spectacular start, removing Amy Jones and Heather Knight for ducks in the first over and got the wicket of Tammy Beaumont, also for a duck, in her next over.

Skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt (64) and Alice Capsey (50) attempted a rescue with a 105-run stand before Sune Luus removed the latter. Kapp dismissed Sciver-Brunt soon after, leaving England 138/5.

"Still feels a bit unreal. You dream as a kid of scoring a hundred in a World Cup knock-out game," Wolvaardt said at the post-match ceremony. "This probably has to be right at the top, considering the context, a World Cup semifinal. It is right up there," she added.

Brief scores: South Africa 319/7 in 50 overs (Wolvaardt 169, Brits 45, Kapp 42, Ecclestone 4/44, Lauren Bell 2/55) bt England 194 in 42.3 overs (Sciver-Brunt 64, Capsey 50, Kapp 5/20, Nadine de Klerk 2/24)
