Sanju Samson will wear Chennai Super Kings' iconic yellow jersey in the upcoming IPL season, the franchise announced on Saturday. They added that they have traded veteran Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to Rajasthan Royals in exchange for their Malayalee skipper.

Sanju, who has captained the Royals since 2021, led the team to the IPL final in 2022, where they lost the title to the Gujarat Titans. Sanju has scored more than 4,704 runs in his IPL career and is expected to take over the captaincy of Chennai, which MS Dhoni currently leads.

"Sanju Samson brings with him a wealth of experience, having scored over 4500 runs in his IPL career. Samson has been a part of the IPL for over a decade and has represented Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals in the tournament," CSK said in a statement.

The five-time champions said that the decision was taken with mutual understanding with both Jadeja and Curran. "We are deeply grateful for Jadeja's extraordinary contributions and the legacy he leaves behind. We wish both Jadeja and Curran the best for the future," the team said in a statement.

"A transition in a team's journey is never easy. Trading out a player like Ravindra Jadeja, who has been an integral part of the franchise for more than a decade, and Sam Curran was one of the toughest decisions we have taken in the team's history," said CSK Managing Director, KS Viswanathan.

Jadeja has been a cornerstone of CSK’s success, known for his tight left-arm spin and match-winning cameos with the bat. His heroics in the IPL 2023 final, where he sealed victory with 10 runs off the last two balls, remain one of the most iconic moments in CSK history.
