The government of Bangladesh have directed to stop the broadcast of all Indian Premier League (IPL) matches and related events in the wake of the removal of their cricketer Mustafizur Rahman from the KKR squad.

Bangladesh's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued an order "in public interest" on Monday. The IPL, the largest franchise-based cricket league in the world, is scheduled to begin in India on March 26.

The Bangladesh ministry's statement said it arrived at the decision on the basis of Mustafizur's removal. "No logical reason is known for such a decision by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and such a decision has saddened, shocked and angered the people of Bangladesh," the ministry said.

Bangladesh had recently declared that it will not play the upcoming T20 World Cup in India. Diplomatic relations between the countries had strained after a Hindu factory worker in Bangladesh was allegedly beaten and set on fire last year.

In the wake of the violence, KKR was urged to exclude Mustafizur from their squad. With pressure mounting, KKR issued a statement on Saturday saying they have released the pacer at the instruction of the BCCI.
