La Liga side Valencia have threatened legal action against the makers of the recently-released Netflix documentary 'Vini Jr', claiming it casts their fanbase in a bad light in connection with the racism incident involving Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior.

Valencia posted their statement in response to a social media post from Netflix announcing the documentary. "As a response to injustice and falsehoods made towards the Valencia CF fanbase, the club have made a demand in writing to the producers of the documentary regarding their portrayal of what occurred at Mestalla, which does not correspond with reality," Valencia posted.

"Truth and respect for our fans must prevail. Valencia CF reserves the right to legal action corresponding to the situation," the club's official handles added.

The infamous incident from May 2023 related to Brazilian winger Vinicius being subjected to racist abuse from a section of the Valencia fans during a La Liga match at the Mestalla Stadium in Valencia.

Vinicius was deeply hurt by the incident and left the match in tears, while Real's experienced manager, Carlo Ancelotti, firmly sided with his player. Vinicius later took to social media, alleging 'it wasn't the first time, nor the second, nor the third'.

"Racism is normal in La Liga. In football they think its normal, the federation does too and the opponent encourages it. I'm so sad. The championship that once belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano and Messi today belongs to racism," Vinicius posted.

The incident led to the conviction of three Valencia fans, which La Liga said was the first in Spanish football in connection with racism. The racist fans received an eight-month sentence.
