It was another heartbreaking final defeat for India's top-ranked men's doubles duo, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, as they finished runners-up in the China Masters Super 750 in Shenzhen on Sunday.
The Indians lost to the World No 1 pair of Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae of Korea, 19-21, 15-21 in a 45-minute battle. Satwik and Chirag had lost the Hong Kong Open title recently.
Kim and Seo have won six titles since reuniting this season. The Korean duo won the World Championships gold in Paris and Super 1000 crowns at the All England and Indonesia Open.
The Indian duo had led the first game 14-7, but the Koreans bounced back to make it 15-all and tied again at 17. Chirag caused a net error to give the Koreans a 19-17 lead, and though the Indians equalised, they couldn't secure the game.
The Indians also led 3-2 in the second game, and were also 8-6 up, but slipped up. A neat drop shot gave the Koreans an 18-15 lead, before Chirag hit long twice and Satwik pushed his attempt long to surrender the match.
