Temperatures are anticipated to rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius everywhere except in the hilly regions
. The districts affected include Kottayam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, and Kannur.
It is also forecasted that the temperature may increase by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the affected areas in the next few days.
The temperature is expected to drop in the subsequent days, the weather department predicted.
IMD has warned that temperatures are likely to touch 37 degree Celsius in Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kannur districts on Tuesday and Wednesday.
As much as possible, stay indoors till 3 pm on the days of extreme heat warnings.
As per the alert, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kannur will record a maximum temperature of 37 degree Celsius on Monday and Tuesday.
The government also urged the people to wear loose clothes and add more fruits and salads to their diet.
The region is under pressure from the El Nino weather phenomenon, with the volume of rainfall in the northern Amazon below the historical average.
