The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) academic council Wednesday decided to hold admissions through the Common Universities Entrance Test (CUET) from the next academic session, a decision opposed by the university's teachers' and students' unions.
The national-level counselling for MD and MS courses as well as those for diploma and DNB courses commences from Wednesday, Jan 12, as announced by the Medical Counselling Committee following the nod by the Supreme Court.
The petition was filed by a few candidates, including one Dr Sree Parvati, who took the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Postgraduate), 2021, which is the qualifying exam for the PG courses.
The much-delayed post-graduate medical admissions are set to commence with national-level counselling for MD and MS courses as well as those for diploma and DNB courses on Wednesday, Jan 12.
The Supreme Court on January 7, in an interim order, allowed resumption of medical counselling for NEET-PG admissions for the year 2021-22. It also upheld the validity of 27 per cent OBC and 10 per cent EWS quotas.
It has allowed increasing fees by Rs 45,000 for the merit seats and Rs 60,000 for the management seats.
The apex court passed the order while hearing the pleas of the students who wrote the improvement exam. They appealed to the court to not cancel the marks of their previous exams.
The applicants should pass BDS and complete the internship before 31 March this year.
However, students who are already admitted in any quota aren’t eligible for application.
