The Railways will operate several special trains connecting Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad with Kerala considering the heavy rush witnessed during the Onam season.
The Southern Railway has announced special train services anticipating a huge rush during the upcoming Onam holidays in Kerala.
After around two years, the railway authorities have announced the resumption of the facility considering the heavy rush during the upcoming Onam holidays.
Several trains conducting services in Kerala have either been cancelled or delayed following the heavy rains and damage caused to the signalling system.
IMD has issued an orange alert in the Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki and Thrissur districts of Kerala.

Passenger trains in Kerala which were cancelled following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic will resume services as unreserved expresses. Subsequently, the minimum fare on these trains will now be Rs 30. However, regular travellers will not be affected as season ticket fares have not been changed.
The preliminary discussions regarding the project, which is estimated to cost Rs 5,000 crore, were held at the Southern Railways Head Quarters in Chennai.
Several trains on the route would be running an additional time of up to two-and-a-half hours after the monsoon schedule is implemented.
Unreserved general coaches will be restored in more long-distance trains, operating services via Kerala.
