Hello
The ground team is looking after the health and well being of the elephant since its release in KMTR about 75 days ago, KMTR Conservator of Forests & Field Director said.
The elephant was released here in the first week of June after it was caught near Pachanampatti in Theni district of Tamil Nadu.
The elephant currently lives in the Kodayar forest range inside Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve (KMTR).
The Tamil Nadu forest department has said the radio collar, around the animal's neck, is working.
Chief Veterinary Officer (Retd) of the state Forest Department Dr E K Eswaran and Professor (Retd) Dr Jose Joseph of the Kerala Agricultural University toured the human-animal conflict zones on behalf of Manorama. This is the third part of a series on their findings.
CJI DY Chandrachud dismissed a petition filed by an animal rights body saying it was not the remit of the apex court.
The wild tusker from Idukki had been translocated to the Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu.
Santhanpara Police had earlier found that as many as 26 illegal tent camps were functioning in Chinnakanal and had expressed concern over the activities in such facilities.
The elephant was untraceable for the most part during the last two days, leading to speculation that it was again on the move or likely moved deep inside the forest.
The private plantation land adjacent to the Nedumkayam forest of Nilambur South Forest Division will be handed over to the forest department for rewilding, securing elephant habitat, and ensuring the preservation of wildlife.
