A decision will be taken on appointing an expert committee to examine the thesis when the vice-chancellor returns on Wednesday.
The Save University Forum Campaign Committee that has been relentlessly fighting CPM-sponsored nepotism in universities had filed a petition.
In the thesis, she had written that 'Vazhakkula' was a poem by Vyloppilli (Sreedhara Menon) when in fact it is a well-known work of Changampuzha Krishna Pillai.
As per existing rules, the university has no powers to revoke the PhD already awarded or correct the mistakes in the dissertation.
The petition also demanded suspension of the guideship of former Pro Vice Chancellor of Kerala University P P Ajayakumar, who was Chintha’s guide, and his removal as director of HRDC.
Two of the three experts who evaluated Chintha’s dissertation are from outside Kerala. They might not know who wrote the poem ‘Vazhakkula’. It has to be assumed that the third expert on the panel also did not notice this mistake.
However, they are yet to warm up to the recent UGC move to allow campuses of foreign universities in the country
As per the University rules, a Syndicate decision can be implemented only if the VC approves of it.
The Governor also directed VC Dr Ciza Thomas to take action against the Registrar if he is found to be at fault.
