The CJI, who was sitting on the bench with Justices Hima Kohli and J B Pardiwala, said the fresh cases will be listed for hearing on their own.
Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud succeeds Uday Umesh Lalit, who had recommended him as his successor to the Centre on October 11.
He will assume office on November 9. Justice Chandrachud will serve as CJI for over two years, making it one of the longest terms for a Chief Justice in the recent past.
Justice Chandrachud was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court on May 13, 2016.
Dismissing the plea, the bench said the petitioner is at liberty to pursue appropriate remedies.
A video of the Justice – who had heard cases on Padmanabhaswamy Temple and Sabarimala women entry – making the controversial remarks has gone viral.
He will also hear an appeal filed by human rights activist Navlakha, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, against a Bombay HC order rejecting his plea that he be placed under house custody instead of being lodged in prison.
Justice Lalit became the second CJI to be directly elevated to the apex court bench from the Bar.
