Hello
The court said it is shameful that crimes against women are taking place in a country where mega epics like Mahabharata and Ramayana were written about respecting them.
Ramani accused Akbar of sexual misconduct around 20 years ago when he was a journalist. He has denied the accusations.
Multiple women have come out with accounts of alleged sexual harassment by former Union minister MJ Akbar while he was working as a journalist.
A majority of the EC members suggested that Akbar and Tejpal's memberships be suspended.
The journalist said that she has worked with Akbar for 20 years and had not heard anything "untoward" from the staff of the organisation where they worked together.
The journalist attacked the former Minister by saying that "a relationship that is based on coercion, and abuse of power, is not consensual."
She said that Akbar, the editor in chief of the Asian Age newspaper at that time, was a brilliant journalist but used his position to prey on her.
The advocate referred to various tweets of Ramani to allege that they have caused irreparable damage to the reputation of the former junior minister of external affairs.
The journalists have urged the court to hear their testimonies against Akbar, claiming that some of them suffered sexual harassment by the minister and others have been a witness to it.
Akbar has sued the woman who had first named him in the #MeToo campaign -- journalist Priya Ramani, for defamation.
