Kerala has some amazing beaches, each one with its unique features. Among them, Alappuzha beach and Mararikulam beach are renowned for their beauty and travellers are often tempted to attempt a comparison between the two scenic locales.
A top tourist destination in Kerala, Alappuzha lures visitors with its picturesque backwaters. A trip along the waterways in the luxurious houseboats is the highlight of the place. But the beach in Alappuzha also is a popular spot, with an ancient pier and a lighthouse being the main attractions. Visitors to the beach can pick up conch shells washed ashore by the raging waves and enjoy a refreshing breeze on the beach.
Stalls selling freshly fried snacks and pickled gooseberry and mango line the beach. The beauty of the beach can also be viewed from a boat and also from the top of the lighthouse. Vijay Park, a children's play area, and an amusement park are other attractions at the beach, which is located four km to the west of Alappuzha town.
Crowded most of the time, Alappuzha beach witnesses a steady stream of foreign as well as domestic tourists. A number of resorts, hotels and homestays offer a wide choice of accommodation for travellers.
Idyllic Marari beach
Marari beach in Mararikulam can be reached by travelling 11 km from the heart of Alappuzha town. A resort beach, the highlight of the place is lush coconut groves facing the sea.
Being a thinly-crowded beach, Marari offers hassle-free views of the sunset. Incidentally, the beach and surroundings look stunning even during noon. Several resorts and homestays came up near the beach after foreign and domestic travellers started arriving there. The clean beach with few visitors offers tasty local cuisine too.
Mararikulam is connected to other places by road as well as rail. Even though ideal for a visit around the year, Marari beach is best enjoyed during winter. Moreover, travellers to Mararikulam can interact with the local people and learn their way of life.
