New regulations in Munnar: Prepaid taxi counters, restrictions, parking facilities and more

Starting August 1 this year, several traffic regulations will be implemented in Kerala's Munnar to ease congestion. On Saturdays, Sundays, and other busy days, such as holidays, large buses have to park in Old Munnar. Later, they will have to transport their tourists to various spots only in small vehicles. A prepaid counter will also be established to prevent tourists from being overcharged.
Key decisions to be implemented:
a) Home guards will be appointed at various tourist spots in Munnar, Devikulam, and Marayoor panchayats. The amounts received from parking facilities will be used to pay their wages.
b) Roadside parking at Anchanchal and Althara areas will be brought within parking lots for traffic control.
c) Police will be appointed for traffic control in the areas of Aanchal and Althara.
d) Parking of buses, including KSRTC, on the roadside in front of the KSRTC depot will be prohibited.
e) Visitors to Rajamalai will be assigned visiting times during online booking.
f) Traffic signals will be installed for traffic control.
g) Strict measures will be taken to control parking on GH Road.
h) A one-way system will be implemented at the Post Office Junction for vehicles going towards Devikulam and Adimali.
i) Jeeps and autos in Munnar town and its surroundings will only be allowed to park on the sides.
j) Illegal roadside parking in Ikka Nagar will be prohibited.
k)Roadside shops and stalls on national and state highways will be cleared before June 30.
l) Parking facilities will be arranged in Mattupetty and Lakkam areas in cooperation with KDH P and KFDC.
