Kerala's Tourism Department has launched an online facility which can be availed by Keralites stranded in other states following the COVID-19 lockdown, to book vehicles for returning home.
"The vehicles will be arranged by tour operators and almost 150 such operators have registered with the department," said Rani George, Tourism Secretary of Kerala. More tour and transport operators will be roped in soon, she added.
Keralites wishing to return to Kerala should log onto the website www.keralatourism.org and register their names. They are also required to place their requirements regarding the vehicle. The Tourism Department will forward these details to the tour operators.
Meanwhile, those registering on the website would be given the registration number as well as the contact number of the selected tour operators. After making mutual contact, the travellers and operators can finalise the fare and travel plans.
At present, 500 vehicles that can carry 5897 passengers are ready for the trips. They include 58 buses, 71 Travellers, 53 Innova Crystas, 112 Innovas, 37 Ertiga and similar vehicles, 81 Etios or similar cars, and 53 Swift or cars of the same class.
Non-resident Keralites (NRKs) in other parts of India can apply for the pass to enter the state with the registration number of the selected vehicle.
