Bicycles allowed on Kochi metro from tomorrow

Kochi: From Sunday onwards Kochi Metro riders will be allowed to take their bicycles on the train. Travellers who arrive on bicycles may carry them through the lift to enter the platforms if they intend to take them to their destination. The cycles are to be kept either in the front or rear portion of the train. Metro staff will assist in keeping the cycles on the coach.

The facility will be available at 6 stations to begin with. They are Changampuzha Park, Palarivattom, South, Town Hall, Maharajas College and Elamkulam.

Travellers are advised to keep the bicycles clean and are not allowed to cycle inside the station. Bicycles that are wrapped in a bag will be considered as luggage, officials said.

Kochi Metro Rail Ltd MD Alkesh Kumar Sharma said that the project is being implemented on a pilot basis. If it is well received it will be extended to all stations on the network.

The increasing number of bicycle riders in Kochi city could benefit from the move.
