Nedumkandam: A temporary police aid post will be set up at the picturesque hill station of Ramakkalmedu to oversee the New Year festivities. The arrangement, part of the proactive measures to enhance safety and security, will be in place for 24 hours, starting from December 31, and will be under the control of the Nedumkandam Police.

Numerous visitors, besides the residents, arrive at the breathtaking landscape in the Idukki district every year to usher in the new year. The aid post is being launched with a specific focus on ensuring the safety of tourists by curbing the use of drugs, and excessive alcohol consumption, and preventing incidents of attack.

The police have already issued strict guidelines for conducting New Year celebrations at homestays. Also, the cops have initiated widespread searches to prevent the flow of drugs and intoxicating substances from across the border.
