Kannur: Even though the Indian Railways recently restored second-class ordinary fares to pre-Covid rates, the revised fares will not apply to all trains. The reduced rates will be applicable only for trains that operate in routes less than 200 kilometers and have a train number starting with ‘0’. The lowest ticket fare for travelling on ordinary trains is fixed at Rs 10 while that on Express trains is Rs 30.

Post the pandemic lockdown, the Railways had gradually withdrawn ‘Passenger Trains’ by changing their nomenclature to Express Special. The ‘Ordinary Class’ fares were dispensed with and the minimum ticket cost was increased from Rs 10 to Rs 30 on par with Express Train fares. The serial numbers of such trains operating over a distance of over 200 kilometers were revised accordingly to start with ‘16’.
