The monsoon season has officially begun in Kerala and the state is already experiencing heavy rainfall in many areas. The India Meteorological Department has issued Red Alert (extremely heavy rain) for Kasaragod and Kannur, Orange Alert (very heavy rain and storm) in nine districts and Yellow Alert (disruptions possible) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha for today. In light of the emerging weather conditions, certain tourist spots have been closed and activities are restricted or banned in Kerala. Here are the details:

Closed tourist spots
1) All tourist spots of the Kasaragod district
2) All tourist centres of Kannur, till May 27
3) En Ooru Village in Wayanad
4) Entry banned to river banks, beaches, waterfalls and other water bodies of Kozhikode.
5) Entry banned to tourist spots offering boating, kayaking, rafting and coracle rides in Idukki, such as Munnar's Mattupetty Dam

Activities prohibited
1) Boating
2) Kayaking
3) Rafting
4) Coracle (kuttavanchi) rafting
5) Trekking
6) Night travel in hilly areas banned from 7 pm to 7 am, till May 27
